Objetivo: The concept is that of an urban center with inter leading areas: the Urban Valley, the Red Carpet Zone, the Walk of Fame and the PIFF Park. The urban center is defined through the different parts of the building and the plaza. It is covered by two large, computer operated LED fitted roofs. The larger of the two roofs has an unsupported cantilever of 85 m over the multi functional Memorial Court events area. The complex is zoned with the use of recognizable building units that are located under the roofs. The buildings house theater, cinema, open air cinema, a convention center, offices, creative studios and restaurants. The buildings flow in to each other via a mix of protected inside and outside areas. The design allows for flexible and hybrid use that enables the annual festival as well as the everyday use to run smoothly.

The different functions of the urban areas are already differentiated on the floor plans. This is further accentuated in the cross section by a dialog between the stone clad “earthy” forms of the CineMountains and PIFF Hills and the metallic “sky” created by the LED roof. The materials used for the different parts of the building differentiate the rooms and highlight the architectural concept. A dynamic and unforced tension between floor and roof is created through form and placement of the various parts.
